Prize Winners’ Concerts

Prize Winners’ Concerts

Every year, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern awards its own prizes for the most promising soloists and ensembles, as well as an Audience Prize. These awards carry generous cash prizes and are connected with an annual re-invitation of the prize-winning artists. Over the years, a true family of Prize Winners has developed, whose members enjoy coming back every season to join us up north. The 2012 season will be no different. We are pleased to be welcoming back so many of our former Prize Winners.

The season will be launched with an opening concert by Gabriel Schwabe performing Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in Wismar(June 9). You will have several opportunities to experience violinist Viviane Hagner: at the Wandelkonzert (promenade concert) in Ulrichshusen (June 30), with the Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra (July 8 in Ulrichshusen), at the “Romantic Summer’s Night” in Klütz (August 25), and with the premiere performance of Siegfried Matthus’s Violin Concerto (August 26 in Ulrichshusen). And this special series would not be complete without trumpeter Gábor Boldoczki, who will be performing with organist Iveta Apkalna in the Schweriner Dom (July 11). Daniel Müller-Schott and Julia Fischer are the soloists in Brahms' Double Concerto (August 19 in Ulrichshusen), and Marie-Elisabeth Hecker is performing with Martin Helmchen in Fürstenhagen (August 29). Alice Sara Ott will take the stage in Putbus, together with Paavo Järvi and the hr-Sinfonieorchester (August 30).

Many of our Ensemble Prize Winners will also be returning for the 2012 season. The Trio Echnaton will dedicate a concert to Bach’s “Goldberg Variations” (June 22 in Neu Drosedow), the Trio con Brio Copenhagen will present a Nordic evening in Prerow (June 28), and the Sitkovetsky Piano Trio will be performing the “Triple Concerto” by Beethoven with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin (July 1 in Ulrichshusen). The Fauré Quartett is part of our series celebrating the 200th anniversary of Emilie Mayer’s birth (July 11 in Heiligendamm), and the Kungsbacka Piano Trio will be presenting Beethoven’s Piano Trios on two days in Zarrentin (August 4 and 5). Julia Fischer will be coming with her new quartet, in which Alexander Sitkovetsky, primarius of the Sitkovetsky Piano Trio, is playing the violin (August 5 in Wismar). The young women of the French Quintette Aquilon recently earned the prestigious ECHO Klassik award. Join us in Volkenshagen to experience the unique beauty of their music (August 17)! Also performing in quintet is the vocal ensemble amarcord. Together with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, they can be experienced in Ulrichshusen with Kurt Weill’s “The Seven Deadly Sins” (September 2). There is also a new ensemble on stage: Daniel Hope, Li-Wei Qin, and Jonathan Gilad will be performing for the first time as a trio – an event that you definitely won’t want to miss (September 8 in Ulrichshusen)!

Another special highlight of the season is the Prize Winner project organized by our Prize Winner in Residence, Veronika Eberle. In three concerts at Schloss Ulrichshusen, you can discover what happens when Prize Winners come together and make music (July 28 and 29).

Don’t miss the concerts of our Prize Winner family – back home in MV!
