The Chamber Music Projects
The Chamber Music Projects
The work of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is underpinned by long-standing relationships with artists and renowned institutions. Therefore, in our projects, we devote a large number of concerts every season to our partners.
The musicians of The Academy New York will be our guests for the third season, presenting a programme of chamber music by American and European composers, together with Festspiele Prize Winners (June 13 in Heiligendamm, June 14 in Schwerin, June 15 in Greifswald).
Likewise joining us from New York for the third year in a row are pianist Wu Han and cellist David Finckel with their Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, all of whom clearly feel quite comfortable with us here on the Baltic Sea in Heiligendamm. They will be performing with not only the Lincoln Center Fellows but also our Prize Winners Li-Wei Qin and Alexander Sitkovetsky.
Our artistic director, Daniel Hope, is not only active in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. As the associate artistic director of the Savannah Music Festival in the middle of the beautiful state of Georgia, he keeps his eyes – and, of course, his ears – open for us on the American continent as well. This year, he has invited musicians from Savannahfor three concerts, including the Festspiele Prize Winners Josephine Knight and Philip Dukes. We are looking forward to Schubert, Beethoven, and Mozart (August 8 in Rühn, August 9 in Bad Doberan, August 10 in Kotelow)!
The Festspiele Prize Winners will also be very active again this season, especially our Prize Winner in Residence, violinist Veronika Eberle. For her Friends Project, the Münchner Kammerorchester and its conductor Christoph Poppen will be coming to Hasenwinkel, along with cellist Julian Steckel, violist Antoine Tamestit, and pianist Francesco Piemontesi (July 12 in Hasenwinkel, July 13 in Wismar, July 14 in Ulrichshusen, July 15 in Stralsund).
Following Festspiele tradition, the 2012 Prize Winner project will once again take place at the castles Hasenwinkel and Ulrichshusen. This project, for which Veronika Eberle has put together a varied program, includes cellist Sebastian Klinger, Matthias Schorn on the clarinet, the musicians of the Danish String Quartet, and many more exciting artists (July 28 and 29).
